Book Holidays to Tennessee with Discover North America
Tennessee is all about authentic experiences. Whether in the major cities of Memphis, Nashville, Knoxville or Chattanooga, or in some of America’s most inspiring small towns, like Franklin, Collierville or Cleveland, Tennessee delivers hospitality and a true American experience.
When it comes to music, Tennessee brings the foot-tapping, soul-saving kind – the blues, rock ‘n’ roll, soul, country, gospel and everything in between. Tennessee’s creative spirit is the stuff America was built on. It is infused into every sip of Jack Daniel’s oak-barrel-aged amber gold and every bite of “I’ve-died-and-gone-to-heaven” barbeque. The state’s beauty is highlighted by America’s No. 1 most visited national park – Great Smoky Mountains – and scenic rivers that sculpt the landscape.
America’s soundtrack was and continues to be made in Tennessee, by legends like Johnny Cash and Tina Turner and superstars Dolly Parton and Justin Timberlake. Admirers pay homage to Elvis at Graceland in Memphis and channel soul and the blues on Memphis’ iconic Beale Street. They celebrate country music’s beginnings at the Birthplace of Country Music Museum in Bristol and revel in the continuing story at Nashville’s Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum and the Grand Ole Opry. And a visit to the Tina Turner Museum at Flagg Grove School in Brownsville showcases the Queen of Rock n Roll’s musical journey.
Music milestones will be celebrated in Tennessee from 2017, including the Ryman Auditorium’s 125th, the Bristol Sessions’ 90th, Elvis Week’s 40th, the 60th anniversary of RCA Studio B and the 50thanniversary of the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum.
Graceland will unveil its most significant expansion since 1982 with “Elvis: Past, Present & Future” – a $45-million entertainment complex presenting the life, career and legacy of the greatest entertainer like never before.
The new Songbirds Timeless Guitar Collection, housed at the historic Choo Choo Terminal in Chattanooga, features more than 300 classic American acoustic and electric instruments on permanent display and 1,700 guitars in an ever revolving and growing collection.
Entertainment icon Dolly Parton helps families create memories every day at Dollywood in Pigeon Forge. The theme park, which includes a splash park and cabins, expanded with the addition of Dolly’s DreamMore Resort, a family-focused, full-service resort that offers a true Smoky Mountain experience. While in East Tennessee, stop into Knoxville’s resurrected Bijou Theatre or the WDVX Blue Plate Special radio show at Knoxville’s visitors centre.
Tennessee’s history is discovered at places like Stones River National Battlefield and Shiloh National Military Park. Visit iconic attraction – Rock City and Ruby Falls in Chattanooga. Don’t miss Memphis’ National Civil Rights Museum and Titanic! Pigeon Forge.
