Spend your days soaking up the sights and sounds of the Bay Area—from the bustling energy of Fisherman’s Wharf and the eerie history of Alcatraz Island, to the awe-inspiring views from the Golden Gate Bridge. Wander through neighborhoods like North Beach and the Mission District, enjoy fresh seafood on the waterfront, and get your bearings before heading inland toward the wide-open spaces of the American West.

Day 4: Sacramento

Your road trip officially begins as you collect your car and drive east to Sacramento, California’s charming and historic capital. Explore Old Sacramento’s waterfront, with its Gold Rush-era buildings, wooden sidewalks, and riverfront restaurants. Visit the California State Railroad Museum, stroll the Capitol grounds, or take a scenic walk along the American River Parkway before resting up for your journey into Nevada.

Day 5-7: Reno

Cross into the Silver State and land in Reno, a city where high-desert cool meets mountain adventure. Known as “The Biggest Little City in the World,” Reno offers more than gaming and nightlife—it’s your gateway to outdoor icons like Lake Tahoe, Pyramid Lake, and the Black Rock Desert. Reno offers the perfect blend of city comforts and wilderness access.

Day 8-9: Winnemucca

Continue east along the Cowboy Corridor to Winnemucca, a town that proudly calls itself the “Friendliest Town in Nevada.” This welcoming stop is steeped in Western hospitality and offers a taste of true frontier culture. Day 13: West Wendover

Before crossing into Utah, spend a night in West Wendover, a lively town on the edge of the Nevada border. Known for its retro vibes and neon lights, West Wendover is a classic casino town that also serves up a hearty helping of Americana.
