Start your adventure in Seattle! There’s no better introduction to this lively city than Pike Place Market, a historic bazaar known for its amazing array of goods, including handmade crafts and colourful produce, and the famous fish mongers tossing fresh catches to their customers. Seattle’s Chinatown is legendary for Asian food, grocery stores and attractions. See the panoramic views from the top of the Space Needle, marvel at the glass sculptures at Chihuly Garden and Glass and explore the Frank O. Gehry - designed Museum of Pop Culture, all within walking distance of each other. Stroll to the nearby waterfront to see the Olympic Sculpture Park. Harbor cruises are a fantastic way to get picture-perfect views of the city, mountains and bay.
Today, you'll make your way to Wenatchee, which is located at the crossroads of the Columbia and Wenatchee Rivers. Wenatchee is tucked away in a rugged valley full of natural and manmade wonders, from challenging golf courses to rocky trails. The Wenatchee Valley's numerous orchards, fruit stands and annual Apple Blossom Festival have garnered the area the title of "Apple Capital of the World." With the snow-capped Cascades to the west and the mighty Columbia to the east, the Wenatchee area offers no shortage of activities for the adventurous traveller.
Nestled in a pine-green mantle beside a gem of a lake, Coeur d'Alene has perhaps the most idyllic setting of any Idaho town. Restaurants with waterfront dining, a 3,300-foot floating boardwalk, and resort hotels cluster along the water's edge. American bald eagles and the largest population of osprey in the Western United States make their homes here. The area is surrounded by dozens of lakes left behind by the glaciers of the ice age. There are more than 55 lakes within easy driving distance of Coeur d'Alene, but none more scenic and full of activities than Lake Coeur d'Alene itself.
Located in the Northwest corner of Montana, in the heart of the spectacular northern Rocky Mountains, Whitefish is the gateway to Glacier National Park and home to the friendliest Montana folks that you’ll ever meet. Inside the park your options for things to do are endless. Choose from short walks where you can slowly savor the natural world. Take a comfortable boat cruise on one of the pristine lakes. Fish a clear mountain stream. Embark on a historic driving tour of the famed Going-to-the- Sun Road, or, hike miles of well marked trails perfect for exploring mountain lakes, glaciers, plant life, and glimpsing some of the full-time residents such as grizzly and black bears, mountain goats, bighorn sheep, moose, deer, and more.
Head south, past the Mission Mountains to the town of Missoula. Located in the Northern Rockies, surrounded by national forests and mountain ranges at the confluence of three rivers, Missoula is a laid-back Western town steeped in history that lures visitors with myriad opportunities to enjoy an eclectic cultural scene and explore the great outdoors.
Occupying parts of Wyoming, Idaho and Montana, Yellowstone is the USA’s oldest national park. Yellowstone National Park sits on top of a dormant volcano and is home to more geysers and hot springs than any other place on earth. Wonders abound at this truly unique national park, from sites like the Yellowstone Grand Canyon to wildlife like America’s largest buffalo herd, grizzly bears, and wolves. Approximately 50 percent of the world’s hydrothermal features are at Yellowstone National Park, creating an effect that makes the ground appear to be on fire. The most famous of all the geysers is Old Faithful, one of the most popular and recognised natural wonders in the United States. During your time here, you can explore the park by car, driving around its figure-of-eight Grand Loop Road, or join a 4x4 tour with a knowledgeable guide.
On Day 13, head to Jackson Hole, a welcoming, quaint mountain resort town and a bustling hub for travellers from across the globe. Jackson Hole sits in the shadow of the Tetons, and outdoor recreation is at the heart of the local ethos. Many call Grand Teton National Park Jackson's backyard, and the park and surrounding areas offer endless opportunities for hiking, climbing, skiing, biking, fishing, rafting, and other outdoor fun. Wildlife watchers come from around the world to see iconic wildlife, including grizzlies, wolves, and bison.
Finish your Glacier to Geysers road trip in Salt Lake City. Some of the top sites can be found in the downtown area, including Temple Square and the Mormon Temple. In the city centre, many of the attractions are in close proximity to one another, making sightseeing easy.
