Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Pittsburgh

Arrive in Pittsburgh and transfer independently to your hotel to settle in. Relax and prepare for a full itinerary of Pittsburgh’s unique sights and vibrant culture over the coming days.

Day 2: Pittsburgh

Kick off your Pittsburgh experience with a scenic ride up the Duquesne Incline to Mount Washington, where you’ll enjoy panoramic views of the city’s stunning skyline and three rivers. Head down to Point State Park at the meeting point of the rivers, with a visit to the Fort Pitt Museum to explore the city’s colonial history. In the afternoon, discover Downtown with either a Bike the Burgh or Walk the Burgh tour to uncover the rich history, hidden architecture, and intriguing stories that shape this area. Wrap up your day in the Cultural District with a visit to the Andy Warhol Museum or the Heinz History Center before enjoying dinner at one of the popular nearby restaurants. If available, consider catching a Pirates (MLB), Penguins (NHL), or Steelers (NFL) game for a taste of Pittsburgh’s passionate sports culture.

Day 3: Pittsburgh

Begin your day on the North Shore at the Carnegie Science Center, where hands-on exhibits and an Omnimax theatre make for an engaging experience. Consider taking a tour of PNC Park, the picturesque home stadium of the Pittsburgh Pirates. After lunch at a North Shore restaurant, explore the historic Strip District. Known for its bustling markets, quirky shops, and variety of food vendors, the Strip is a perfect place to sample local fare and pick up unique souvenirs. In the evening, dine at a local favourite like Primanti Bros., famous for its Pittsburgh-style sandwiches.

Day 4: Pittsburgh to Washington D.C

Board the early morning direct Amtrak service to Washington D.C. Check in to your hotel and unwind before an enchanting evening Monuments by Moonlight trolley tour. This guided tour offers a captivating view of the Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument, Jefferson Memorial, and more—all illuminated under the night sky.

Day 5: Washington D.C

Today, explore the National Mall, starting with the Smithsonian Museums such as the National Museum of American History, the National Air and Space Museum, and the National Museum of African American History and Culture. After lunch, visit the National Gallery of Art and take a stroll around the serene Sculpture Garden. In the afternoon, perhaps visit Capitol Hill for a guided tour of the U.S. Capitol and the historic Library of Congress. In the evening, consider attending a Nationals (MLB), Wizards (NBA), or Capitals (NHL) game if available.

Day 6: Washington D.C

Consider beginning your day at Arlington National Cemetery, where you can witness the Changing of the Guard ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Head to Georgetown for lunch and stroll through its charming streets and boutiques. End the day with dinner in Georgetown’s vibrant dining district.

Day 7: Washington D.C to Philadelphia

Travel by Amtrak to Philadelphia and check into your hotel. Spend the afternoon exploring Independence National Historical Park and its key sights, including Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell, and Elfreth’s Alley. In the evening, enjoy dinner in Old City, a neighbourhood with an eclectic mix of dining options and historic charm.

Day 8: Philadelphia

Today, use your 2-day Hop-on Hop-off pass to explore Philadelphia’s top sights. Start at the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the iconic “Rocky Steps.” Continue to the Franklin Institute for interactive science exhibits and the Rodin Museum to admire the largest Rodin collection outside of Paris. Take a break at Reading Terminal Market for lunch, sampling Philadelphia favourites like cheesesteaks or soft pretzels. If the Phillies (MLB), Eagles (NFL), or 76ers (NBA) are playing, consider catching a game to experience the city’s renowned sports scene.

Day 9: Philadelphia

Spend the morning exploring South Street with its colourful shops and murals. Visit the whimsical Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens and perhaps enjoy a food tour of the nearby Italian Market, sampling local delicacies and Italian specialties. Later, continue exploring the city with your Hop-on Hop-off pass.

Day 10: Philadelphia to New York City

Arrive in New York City via Amtrak and check into your hotel. Start your NYC adventure in Times Square, soaking up the vibrant energy of the city’s most iconic crossroads, filled with dazzling lights, bustling crowds, and incredible street performers. This evening, activate your Go City New York Explorer Pass, giving you access to six of New York’s top attractions over your stay.

Day 11: New York City

Use your Go City Pass to enjoy a ferry ride to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island to learn about America’s immigrant history. In the afternoon, explore Lower Manhattan, including stops at Wall Street, the 9/11 Memorial & Museum, and the One World Observatory for sweeping city views. End your day with dinner in the Financial District or explore the diverse dining options in Chinatown.

Day 12: New York City

Spend the morning strolling through Central Park, discovering landmarks like Bethesda Fountain, Bow Bridge, and Strawberry Fields. Head down Fifth Avenue to shop or sightsee, stopping at famous spots like Rockefeller Center and St. Patrick’s Cathedral. Perhaps use your Go City Explorer Pass to visit the Metropolitan Museum of Art or Museum of Modern Art (MoMA). For dinner, choose from the many restaurants in Midtown. If available, consider a New York Yankees or Knicks game for a quintessential NYC sports experience.

Day 13: End of Itinerary

This morning, check out of your hotel and enjoy your last few hours in the city before your flight home. Alternatively, speak with your Discover North America Travel Specialist about extending your time in the USA.
