Our Top of the World Safari tour into Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks will begin when our guide picks you up at your Jackson Hole area hotel or condo. We will begin by searching for the abundant wildlife of Grand Teton National Park. Over the last several years Grand Teton has become one of the best wildlife viewing parks in the world with all of the region’s wildlife well represented. Moose, elk, deer, bison, pronghorn, fox, coyote, bald and golden eagles, black bears, grizzly bears and even wolves are commonly spotted. We will also spend time enjoying the scenery and attractions of Grand Teton before entering Yellowstone from the south gate. The tour will then travel north into Yellowstone National Park along the Snake and Lewis rivers, past Lewis Falls and Lewis Lake to the continental divide where we descend into the Yellowstone Lake Basin to West Thumb Junction. Here we have an option of going around the lower loop in either direction depending on conditions and current events that might dictate the route on your trip. Usually we will choose to travel around the western side of the lower loop on the first day to explore classic destinations like Old Faithful, Fountain Paintpots, the Midway Geyser Basin on our way to Mammoth Hot Springs. From here we will make our way to the Lamar Valley, often called the Serengeti of North America. This is the single best wildlife viewing area in Yellowstone and known for the abundance of grizzlies and wolves. Here we will spend the afternoon and evening in search of these apex predators with time to learn about and photograph other wildlife, thermal features and the magnificent scenery in this part of the park. The day will end in Silvergate, Montana at the Grizzly Lodge. Silvergate is only a half mile from the park entrance and one of the most remote places you will ever spend the night. We will enjoy dinner at a local eatery and then roast marshmallows over a fire surrounded by Soda Butte creek and huge mountains. This is one of our favorite places on earth!
We will wake early to return to Lamar Valley for a morning of wolf and bear watching with breakfast and coffee served by your guide in the field. Once we get our fill of the Lamar Valley, we will drive over the Beartooth Pass (or the Chief Joseph highway in early season) on our way to Cody, Wyoming. ‘The Beartooth’ as it is affectionately known, is considered to be the most scenic drives in North America and sure to take your breath away! We will then travel through remote high desert to Cody, Wyoming where we will spend time learning about the area’s western history and heritage. An optional visit to the Buffalo Bill Museum or an evening at the Cody Rodeo can be arranged by your guide (entrance fees not included). We will enjoy dinner at an area restaurant and spend the night at the historic Chamberlin Inn (or similar) .
We will start early for a sunrise wildlife and wild mustang tour within the remote McCullough Peaks Management Area outside of town. Breakfast and coffee will be served by your guide while enjoying the splendor of this remote high desert preserve and the wild mustangs that roam freely here. We will return to Cody in time for lunch before traveling back into Yellowstone National Park via the remote east gate. This entrance to the park will take you through some of the most spectacular scenery of the tour climbing and descending Sylvan Pass. If time allows we will take a side trip through the Hayden Valley to see the upper and lower falls of the Yellowstone River as it tumbles into the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone before heading south around Yellowstone Lake towards Jackson Hole. The tour will end with an evening of more wildlife and scenery as we travel back through Grand Teton National Park. We will return you to your Jackson Hole accommodations in time for dinner.
