This morning pick-up your rent-a-car and make your way to Bismarck/Mandan. Along the way, visit The Lewis & Clark Interpretive Centre and Fort Mandan. Continue your drive West on I94 with a stop at the State Museum & Heritage Centre. Stop by Lewis & Clark Riverboat to enjoy a scenic cruise on the Missouri River. Overnight in Bismarck.
Before leaving Bismarck/Mandan, don’t forget to visit Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park. Stop in New Salem to see Salem Sue the World’s Largest Holstein Cow and in Regent for The Enchanted Highway - an incredible collection of scrap metal sculptures. Enchanted Highway runs from the Interstate to Regent, 32 miles. Fancy a coffee stop on the way? Stop at the Brew Coffee Shop in Dickinson, formerly the Church that Theodore Roosevelt used to attend when in the area. You can also visit Badland Dinosaur Museum. After arriving in Medora, visit the North Dakota Cowboy Hall of Fame & Chateau de Mores State Historic Site. This evening, enjoy the famous Medora Musical & Pitchfork Steak Fondue. Get an early start and explore Theodore Roosevelt National Park. This is the best time to see the wildlife. After visiting the National Park continue to New Town, home of the Mandan, Hidatsa and Arika people. After visiting the new MHA Interpretive Center continue your journey to Minot. This morning embark the Empire Builder and enjoy the scenic train ride to Havre in Montana. Welcome to small town Montana! On arrival in Havre, you have the option to rent-a-car to explore the area. We recommend you visiting Wahkpa Chu'gn Archaeological site, Havre Beneath the Streets, Frank DeRosa Railroad Museum or Baltrusch Trail. If you decide to rent-a-car, you can also explore Historic Fort Assiniboine, Blaine Country Wildlife Museum, Blaine Country Museum, Bear Paw Battlefield and Beaver Creek Park. After exploring, enjoy a drink in one of the two craft breweries. Overnight in Havre.
Continue to explore Havre and the area during your morning in town. Back on the train, when passing between Chester and Shelby – notice the Sweet Grass hills to the north, highest isolated peaks in the area, sacred to Blackfeet tribe, can be seen for quite a distance. Today, enjoy your day exploring Essex and the area. Explore the nearby mountains hiking some of the beautiful trails like Marion Trail, Scalplock Trail, Stanton Lake Hike,... Don't forget to visit Goat Lick Overlook, whitewater rafting on the nearby Flathead River,... About 30 minutes from Essex, you have the West entrance of Glacier National Park where you can board one of the Red Bus Tours to explore this beautiful National Park. Near Libby, you also have Kootenai Falls, the Swinging Bridge, Lake Koocanusa and Ross Creek Cedars. This morning, pick-up your rent-a-car in Spokane and drive to Wallace in Idaho. While in Wallace, enjoy a bike ride on the Route of the Hiawatha, a 15 mile downhill ride through pristine forests. On your way to Sandpoint, consider a stop at Old Mission State Park. Continue your journey to Schweitzer Resort near Sandpoint. The resort is offering an abundance of activities.
